Founded in 1989, the Blue Ridge Eventing Association (BREA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the sport of eventing and good horsemanship in the southwestern Virginia area. To accomplish this goal, the association offers several competitions, educational activities, and other similar functions through-out the year which focus on the three disciplines of dressage, cross country, and show jumping. Although the club devotes much of its efforts to the local level rider, it is an affiliate of the United States Eventing Association (USEA) and it strives to provide its members with services equal to or exceeding those provided by this national organization. Where possible, the BREA follows the rules and regulations of the USEA as well as the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) at its competitions. It also encourages its members to become involved with both the USEA and the USEF in hopes that those members will use what they learn at the national level to help the club strengthen and grow. The BREA routinely sends senior teams to the Chronicle of the Horse Adult Team Challenge and junior teams to the Midsouth Team Challenge in addition to offering a Year-End Awards Program from the Green to the Intermediate levels.
