2011 YEAR END
AWARDS PROGRAM
To be eligible for Year End Awards for BREA the following
rules apply (click here for a Word
and here for a PDF version of the 2011
Year End Awards Program rules):
-
The competitor must be a
member in good standing at the time of the competition. If the competitor
has not joined BREA before the competition, his/her placing at that
competition will not count towards Year-End Awards.
-
Competitors must have
completed at least four (4) hours of volunteer service to the organization
by November 1st of the current year. Any person may perform volunteer
work for a member to complete this volunteer hour requirement. Parents
are expected to assist junior competitors ages 10 years and under when that
junior competitor is providing a volunteer service. The Volunteer Chairperson will
maintain a master list of volunteer hours. It will be noted in the
Points-to-Date standings whether the volunteer requirement has been met.
It is the responsibility of the member to send his/her signed
Volunteer Hours Record in to the Volunteer Chairperson if he/she wishes to
compete for Year End Awards as soon as he/she has completed four (4) or six
(6) hours.
Volunteer hours may also be submitted using the Volunteer Hours Submission
Form below.
-
For any hours performed
beyond the required amounts listed in Paragraph Two (2) above, the member will receive a voucher at the rate of five
dollars ($5) for each two (d) hours performed. These vouchers may be used as cash for
entries to BREA sponsored competitions and for membership dues. Up to
two (2) vouchers may be used towards BREA membership dues and volunteer
vouchers may be used to cover up to half of the entry fees at a
BREA-sponsored competition (vouchers may not be used to cover bridle number
of stabling fees). Any person can perform volunteer work for a BREA member to
earn these vouchers. The vouchers will be issued two (2) times each
year, at the annual meeting and approximately halfway through the year.
-
Members are not required to
compete in a BREA-sponsored show to be eligible for a Year-End Award.
However, if a member does not compete in a BREA-sponsored show in the
current year, that member must complete an additional four (4) volunteer
hours to be eligible for a
Year-End Award. The BREA-sponsored events for 2011 are scheduled for May 7,
June 25, August 6, and October 9. All the sponsored events will be held at
Green Hill Park Equestrian Center in Salem, VA.
-
Points will be accepted from
BREA-sponsored, BREA-sanctioned, or any USEA-recognized competitions. Any
unrecognized Combined Test or Horse Trial in USEA Area II or Area III is
considered “sanctioned”. Points from BREA-sponsored competitions will
automatically be tallied by the Points Chairperson. If a
BREA-sponsored show is not a combined test or horse trial, Year End Awards
points will not be awarded from that show, but participation in that show
will meet the participation requirements of Paragraph 4. Points tallied from
recognized and “sanctioned” competitions are the responsibility of the
member. A completed Points Validation Form signed by the Show Secretary
must be received by the Points Chairperson within thirty (30) days of the
competition. Members may submit their Points Validation Form using the
Points Validation Submission form below. Forms submitted from the
website must include a link to the website where the final show results can
be found along with the contact information for the show secretary.
Alternatively, members may mail a Points Validation Form with show results printed from a website or
obtained from the show secretary to the Points Chairperson within thirty
(30) days of the competition. The printed results must
include all of the following information: (1) show date, (2) horse
trials or combined test, (3) division, (4) final placing, and (5) number of
starters. All points must be submitted to the Points Chairperson by December
1 of the current year.

Year End
Awards will be presented to the rider accumulating the greatest number of
points on a single horse at a single level. Therefore, if a horse and rider
pair move up from one level to the next during the year, the two sets of
points are accumulated separately and the pair could win awards at both
levels.
-
Six Year
End Awards may be presented at each level for each division. These levels
include Cross Rails (approximately eighteen inches), Green (two feet), Beginner Novice (two feet six inches), Novice,
Training, Preliminary, and Intermediate. Each level may be divided into two
divisions: Junior (age 18 and under) and Senior. A Championship and a
Reserve Championship will be awarded to the first (1st) and second (2nd)
place riders respectively, with ribbons awarded for the remaining places. A
Junior High Point Award, a Senior High Point Award, and a Horse High Point
Award will be presented to the respective parties who accumulate the most
total points during the year. Ribbons only will be awarded for the Cross
Rail division.
-
Once a
horse and rider combination has been awarded the Championship for Green,
Beginner Novice, or Novice level, that pair will not be eligible for the
Championship at the same level in the future.
-
Points will
be accumulated from December 1st through November 30th. Awards will be
presented at the Year End Awards Banquet.
-
In case of
a tie, the award will go to the rider with the greatest number of first
place points. If the tie remains, the award will go to the rider with
the greatest number of second place points and so forth down the placings
until the tie is broken. If the tie cannot be broken after considering
all the placings, the tie will remain and both riders will receive the
award. Ties for Rider and Horse of the Year will be broken in the same
manner.
